What is Spot Crime?

“Spot Crime” is a FREE crime mapping service that shows you a map of crime that is happening in your area. There crime map arranges local crime reports by neighborhood, zip code, or by city! You can receive daily email or text alerts for any area of the United States. You have the ability to set an address and a range around that address by square miles. Spot Crime will notify you of all the crimes going on in your targeted neighborhood.

Spot Crime has taken the Google map to a new level creating a crime reports map! You can watch the area where you live and know just exactly what is going on in your neighborhood!

Many local news reporting services miss the basic crimes that happen simply due the the large volumes of crime happening everywhere!

Spot Crime’s crime alert system also tells you detailed information about the crimes happening in your neighborhood or targeted area. Below Is a description of the icons in detail.

In the center area of the photo to the left is the type of crime and an address. This is a click-able link that will bring up a separate screen of that crime report!

On that screen will be the Google map and Google Earth images of the crime report area. There is also a listing of other crimes for that area over the past few years!

What do the icons mean?

ARSON ICON - When the Police have decided that a fire is suspicious enough for further investigation or just know that the fire was intentionally set it is labeled as arson. The crime of arson can be committed for many reasons such as for insurance, race, youth, or revenge. If you are seeing this icon on your local crime map perhaps you want to know if it’s kids or something you should be more concerned about!

ASSAULT ICON - The assault icon appears when the Police are called by a victim. Assault happens for many reasons. Some assault are domestic disputes and some are drug related.

BURGLARY ICON - The crime map icon for burglary is a dangerous icon to see in your local neighborhood. Burglary is when a thief breaks into your home and robs you while you are away. The crime of burglary tears lives apart and has become a serious problem for homeowners and renters alike. The punishment for this crime is poor at best. A burglar that hasn’t escalated to robbery might just get a few years and less if it’s their first conviction!

ARREST ICON - Th arrest icon shows that the Police actually took someone “down town”! This could be a served warren or an arrest on the scene of the crime!

ROBBERY ICON - Robbery is the crime of using a weapon and forcing a person to give up property and money! It is different from burglary and shows that this criminal is serious and needs to be taken off the streets by the Police or an armed citizen!

SHOOTING ICON - The shooting crime map icon is a serious icon and crime alert! Bullets have been known to travel long distances and strike innocent victims. The discharging of a firearm is a serious offense. Please use firearms responsibly!
